An Overview of Extrusion as a Pretreatment Method of Lignocellulosic Biomass

نویسندگان

چکیده

Lignocellulosic biomass is both low cost and abundant, unlike energy crops, can escape associated ethical dilemmas such as arable land use food security issues. However, their usage raw material in a biorefinery implies an inherent upstream pretreatment step to access compounds of interest derived from lignocellulosic biomass. Importantly, the efficiency this determinant for downstream processes, while many methods have been explored, extrusion very flexible promising technology. Extrusion well-known polymer pharmaceutical industries has used since 18th century. method biomass, relatively new. The first purpose dates back 1990s. enjoys high degree flexibility due available parameters, but understanding requires knowledge these parameters different relationships between them. In paper, we present concise overview by reviewing key extruder design components operating conditions.

Extrusion Pretreatment of Lignocellulosic Biomass: A Review

Bioconversion of lignocellulosic biomass to bioethanol has shown environmental, economic and energetic advantages in comparison to bioethanol produced from sugar or starch. However, the pretreatment process for increasing the enzymatic accessibility and improving the digestibility of cellulose is hindered by many physical-chemical, structural and compositional factors, which make these material...

An overview of key pretreatment processes for biological conversion of lignocellulosic biomass to bioethanol

Second-generation bioethanol can be produced from various lignocellulosic biomasses such as wood, agricultural or forest residues. Lignocellulosic biomass is inexpensive, renewable and abundant source for bioethanol production. The conversion of lignocellulosic biomass to bioethanol could be a promising technology though the process has several challenges and limitations such as biomass transpo...

Fractionating Pretreatment of Lignocellulosic Biomass as an Entry into Biomass Refining

Lignocellulose, mostly existing in the form of plant materials, is one of the most abundant organic materials in natural world. It has been estimated that there is an annual worldwide production of 10–50 billion tons of dry lignocellulose, accounting for about half of the global biomass yield . In recent years, due to the escalating energy crisis and environmental pollutions, more extensive att...

Hydrothermal Pretreatment of Lignocellulosic Biomass and Kinetics

The study focus was an examination of the hydrothermal pretreatment method applied to the lignocellulosic substrate, represented by the prairie cord grass, and comparison between different conditions based on the yield of glucose after enzymatic hydrolysis. The treatment did not involve any chemicals usage. Enzymatic hydrolysis was performed in order to examine the amount of glucose which was r...

Pretreatment of Lignocellulosic Biomass into Reducing Sugars

Lignocellulosic biomass is the most abundant renewable raw material on the earth and it is so far the most suitable and promising resource for the production of biofuels to replace long-term use of fossil oil. This research aims to convert lignocellulose-based industrial residuals, fibre sludge (FS) from a pulp mill and pine sawdust (PSD) from a sawmill, into platform sugars by two different bi...
